Ahh, too slow in 1B Google Code Jam – Revenge of the Hot Dogs

Oh man! I had it. If only I was as fast as these guys to the left!

I got short and long for the 1st problem (but almost everyone did).

I was so close to finishing the second one, (I would have had to get the long set as well at that point in the competition to make the top 1000).

Don’t know if I want to try at 2am my time the round 1C…. Who am I kidding, I refuse to fail. I will do it and I will make the top 1000! I’ll need some hot dogs to give me energy though.

For the Hot dog problem I just needed to figure out how to handle the max vendors per point neighbors… which I figured with 5 minutes left. Couldn’t quite make it.

I don’t feel too bad, I did the same as Weeble – and linguo didn’t get the hot dog large set (not quite making the cut). Both are REAL coders (linguo has made it to the Finals in the past, granted maybe he’s not trying too hard this time), so I feel a little better. Not much though

Plus I came home and built this with my kids. Come on, I have some skills… right?! Well, at least my kids think so. Better if they thought I have skills, and I had a programming job, though

Looking at linguo’s answers, I think he was just playing around because he wrote some weird ‘assembly’ language with Python and ran his Python-’assembly’ program. … or something.

Couldn’t get enough rest yesterday, playing with the kids, so I couldn’t make the 2am round 1C . I’m out.

  Darn it, I tried out Round 1C. I just may have been able to make the top 1000. I actually got both sets of the problem A-Square Tiles fairly quickly. Then the small set of the problem C-Perfect Harmony (brute force) in pretty much no time. Then I got the small set of B-Space Emergency. 40 points. I would have had to finished those in under 2 hours to crack the top 1000 – which (had I not been interupted today by work) I think I may just have been able to do. Although if I didn’t finish fast enough, I don’t think I would have had time to get the large of B or C (especially C). I just did the large set of B successfully, but I spent some time to rework it for the larger data set
